Ed’s Shearings Dog Grooming Terms & Conditions

  1. Health

The owner agrees that the dog is fit and healthy. Grooming of sick or elderly dogs is entirely at the owner’s risk. Grooming may expose underlying skin or health problems that we cannot be held liable for. Please inform the team if your dog is in season . We will keep her away from other dogs . We do not groom pregnant dogs .You must notify us of any changes whatsoever before each groom is undertaken.

We will not groom any puppy that has not received its vaccinations.

We will not groom any puppy until 2 weeks after their second vaccination. You may be asked for proof of vaccinations.

  1. Risk

We reserve the right not to accept a dog that presents risk of injury to itself or our staff.

  1. Pre-existing conditions

Any pre-existing coat, health and skin conditions of your dog will be discussed, if you have any shampoo you prefer to be used you should supply this at your own expense for us to use during the groom.

  1. Matting

Removal of matting is essential in the treatment and prevention of hotspots and sores, fungal and bacterial infections, yeast infections, flea infestations, moist eczema, mites and lice, maggot infestation, urine and faeces scalding, eye and ear infections, severe itching, scratching and redness. In severe cases matting can cause loss of blood circulation and loss of limbs.

We reserve the right to de-matt and shave the coat very short in order to properly groom a severely affected coat. This treatment is not routine and your dog may look very different afterwards with the hair being very short and close to the skin.

This procedure is very intensive and may cause your dog to be withdrawn, anxious, sad and agitated for a few days. This may also expose pre-existing skin complaints and your dog may scratch. We will strive to seek the owner’s consent before carrying out such procedures.

The owner understands that in extreme cases it is our responsibility to make the best decision for their dog to prevent pain and suffering. By signing and agreeing to our terms and conditions they give us permission to make the best decision for their dog.

Under Animal Welfare Act 2006 we have a legal duty to meet 5 welfare needs therefore we will not de-mat a dog for more than 15 minutes as this can be detrimental to the dog and the decision will be made to clip the dogs coat off to prevent pain and unnecessary suffering as stated in the act.

It is the responsibility of the owner to maintain the condition of the coat in between grooming appointments.

Photos will be taken and the matted coat will be available to view by the owners .

A matted fee will be added to the standard price of the groom; this price will be dependent on the severity of the matting. Extreme matting or pelted coats require extra attention and in some cases require the attention of two skilled groomers, this will cost significantly more.

  1. Interaction with staff

Our staff are trained, skilled professional groomers. If you need help or advice on a groom or how to maintain your dog’s coat at home correctly please ask as we will be more than happy to help. Your dog’s happiness and welfare is most important to us. If you happen to have a dog that is matted, the groomers may ask how the dog’s coat has arrived in this condition, this is so we can help come up with an appointment plan to prevent the coat becoming matted again. It is also our staff’s job to help educate owners on the correct way to brush and comb their dogs to prevent matting and also what the correct grooming tools are for their dogs’ coat type. It is also important that we educate owners of the side effects of matting and how detrimental to the dogs health it can be.

  1. Style

Every effort will be made to groom your dog to meet your expectations. It must be made clear however, that no guarantee can be made in this regard, and we accept no responsibility for a groom carried out according to your instructions, but not to your visual expectations. Records are kept in order to track progress and it may take several grooming sessions for the coat to grow to your desired style.

The owner understands that when their dog arrives at Eds shearings studio, whomever drops off their dog for example spouse, sibling, parent, child, neighbour or friend will be solely responsible for your dog. They will be asked if the usual groom or new groom style is desired. The owner understands that we will complete the groom to the specifications of the person who is responsible for dropping off your dog and will take no responsibility for miscommunication regarding the groom between third party’s outside of Ed’s Shearings Dog Grooming Studio premises.

  1. Safety

Whilst in our care, all dogs are treated with the utmost care and attention. We will ensure your dog is safe and secure and we only use superior quality products. We will not continue a groom on a dog that becomes severely anxious or aggressive.

Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 we have a duty to follow the guidance of the 5 animal needs. We will ensure your dog is kept in a safe environment and away from other dogs when necessary. We understand some owners might not agree with their dog being kept in a secure dog crate, however if your dog or other dogs are deemed to be dangerous they will be kept in a secure housing for the duration of their appointment when not on the grooming table to ensure the safety of them or other dogs in our care.

Your dog may also be kept in secure housing depending on size and or if they have any serious health conditions for example, blindness, bad joints, epilepsy, history of seizures or if your dog has recently had surgery.  When a dog is known to be in heat they will be kept in secure housing away to prevent interaction with male dogs.

Your dog will have access to clean bowls of water to prevent dehydration and a secure clean environment that allows them to exhibit normal movement.

Although it is the owners responsibility we highly recommend owners having dog insurance and we also recommend all dogs to have a collar with a visible name tag as this is a legal requirement under Control of Dogs Order 1992 for all dogs to have a collar and name tag when in public.

  1. Dangerous dogs

It may be necessary for us to use a muzzle/cone on your dog for its own safety and that of the groomer. We carry a selection of comfortable, various sized muzzles/cones, which allow your dog to breathe normally and drink if necessary. A muzzle/cone serves to both calm the dog and prevent damage or injury. It is the owners responsibility to inform the groomer if the dog bites, has bitten or shown any signs of aggression towards any person or dog in the past. If your dog shows any signs of aggression a aggression charge may be added onto the regular grooming price.

We reserve the right to refuse any dog that is part of banned breeds within the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997 or any further amendments to this Act.. If a groomer has been bitten by your dog, a bite charge will be added according to the severity of the bite and the dog may be refused any future appointments at Ed’s Shearings.

If your dog is to cause injury or bite a groomer, the owner agrees to be responsible for any and all related medical bills, recovery costs, loss of income and equipment damage.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 It is the owners responsibility to not allow their dog to be dangerously out of control. Owners MUST keep their dog on a lead while in and around the premises of Ed’s Shearings grooming studio and use a muzzle if their dog is known to be aggressive towards dogs or people.
